Daniele Buetti – Best of Karma

In seiner dritten Einzelausstellung in der Galerie arsFutura präsentiert Daniele Buetti (*1956, lebt in Zürich) eine Raum füllende Installation mit dem Titel “Best of Karma”. In Weiterführung seiner fragilen Kartonsimulakren baut der Schweizer Künstler einen Parcours magischer Momente auf. Die Einfachheit der Mittel steht dabei im krassen Widerspruch zur Prägnanz der Effekte.
Die Arbeiten von Daniele Buetti erzeugen Atmosphäre, machen den Raum schier vergessen, welcher sie umgibt. Man taucht in sie ein, hält staunend inne: Lichter funkeln, Bilder schimmern. Kleberitzen folgend, gelangt man zum nächsten Motiv, und verliert sich – etwa in der unendlichen Reflektion eines Jahrmarktspiegels.
Atmosphäre umhüllt, wirkt manchmal grenzenlos. Ein zuletzt subjektives Empfinden von Raum stellt sich ein. Der Vergleich mit der Laterna Magica drängt sich auf, mit dem Halbdunkel des Kinosaals, mit der Schaubude des Lunaparks, der Leuchtfassaden des Strips. Dort wo Sublimes und Eindeutiges nebeneinander Platz finden. Man ist an all jene wundersamen Apparaturen und Spektakel erinnert, welche auf einfache Art die Menschheit zum Träumen verleiten. Oder an ihre Schauplätze wie etwa Rom, Coney Island, Hollywood oder Las Vegas, um nur die wichtigsten zu nennen.
Verschiedene Elemente fügen sich zu Buettis gebastelter Simulation von Erhabenheit: Bildtafeln mit fotografierten Schönheiten, meist von speziellen Lichteffekten umschwärmt. Dazu Texte mit enigmatischer Tiefe. Loops von Ambientemusik, cooles Rieseln. – Neuerdings dazu gekommen ist eine Art Jahrmarktspiegel. Durch spezielle Anwendung von reflektierendem Glas entsteht der Eindruck, man tauche in ein endloses Lichtzelt ein. In dieses fixiert Buetti wiederum Botschaften oder schreibt ihm Bilder ein.
“Best of Karma” funktioniert in sich selbst als kleiner Kosmos. Leuchtdioden mutieren zu Planeten, Topmodels zu Madonnen, die Unendlichkeit hat hinter einer Fensterscheibe Platz, flunkernde Lämpchen morsen rätselhafte Botschaften. Die Atmosphäre von “Best of Karma” muss man ganz einfach selbst erlebt haben so wie der Strip von Las Vegas auch.

In his third soloshow at arsFutura Daniele Buetti (*1956, lives in Zurich, Switzerland) presents a spacious installation called “Best of Karma”. Being a logical sequel of his fragile cardboard-simulakra the Swiss artist constructs a parcours of magic moments. The simplicity of Buettis means contrast drastically with the powerful impact of this work.
Daniele Buettis installations create atmosphere, make us nearly forget the space surrounding them, letting us immerse and pause in pure astonishment about all those blinking lights and shimmering pictures. Moving from one motive to the next by following the adhesive tape-gaps between the works, and getting lost e.g. in the endless reflection of an optical caleidoscope.
Atmosphere lulls us in, seems endless. A very personal notion of space is the result. One cant help thinking of the Laterna Magica, the twilight of cinemas, of a lunapark or of the blinking streets of Las Vegas, wherever the sublime and the unambiguous meet. One is reminded of all those miraculous machines and spectacles that seduce mankind – despite or because of their simplicity – to dream archetypal dreams taking place in archetypal places like Rome, Coney Island, Hollywood or Las Vegas, just to name the more important ones.
Various elemets create Buettis tinkered simulation of sublimity: Plates of photographed beauties, surrounded by glimmering lightspots. Additionally texts of enigmatic depth. Loops of ambiente music, a cooling trickle. Recently Buetti has added some kind of magic mirror to his work. The specific application of a special reflecting glass creates the feeling of immersing in an endless bright tent of light, where Buetti imprints messages or pictures.
“Best of Karma” is a tiny cosmos in itself. Diodes of light mutate to planets, topmodels to madonnas, infinity can be put behind a window pane, flashing lights send misterious messages in Morse code. One simply has to experience the atmosphere of “Best of Karma” oneself, just like the strip in Las Vegas.
